Hurry Up and Settle Down (for Damon from Jenn)

Jenn writes:

The most intriguing experience of participating in the creation of Hurry Up and Settle Down was not so much in the retelling the details of our love story, Photograph of the love song's subjectbut in watching Corey process what he heard. His leading questions, the moments when his ears perked up, and especially the end-cap when he spontaneously concluded the interview, reinvigorated my own curiosity about a piece of personal history. What in my story might have stirred Corey's imagination—the mood, the detail, the sentence structure, a pause? I can't say. But what I can say is that it captured the spirit of my courtship with my then-boyfriend/now-husband. What a wonderful memory of a wonderful
memory…

Hurry Up and Settle Down (for Damon from Jenn)

We crossed the continental divide
Just like Bonnie and Clyde
On Interstate Eighty
I’m Faye Dunaway
And you’re Warren Beatty
But halfway across Wyoming
I can’t tell if we’re coming or going

I’m tired of moving from job to job
From state to state and town to town
Thousands of miles away
From my one and only heartthrob
I used my credit card to buy
A fancy wedding gown
And a plane ticket one-way
Nonstop let’s hurry up
Let’s hurry up and settle down

Should you hold my hand
Or should I hold yours
You might misunderstand
I might be insecure
I don’t know what to say
You live too far away

I’m tired of moving from job to job
From state to state and town to town
Thousands of miles away
From my one and only heartthrob
I used my credit card to buy
A fancy wedding gown
And a plane ticket one-way
Nonstop let’s hurry up
Let’s hurry up and settle down

Rescue me from these endless job interviews
And let’s just disappear
Let’s just disappear
I’ll spend thirteen days in a van with you
Up to thirteen times a year
